As part of the Book Year in the CIS, the Russian Book Union, with the support of the Interstate Fund for the Humanitarian Cooperation of States, organized a large-scale international project, “The Reading Assembly of the Commonwealth,” on September 18, 2019.
The goal of the project is to unite efforts in promoting books and reading of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Georgia and the Baltic countries, exchange of experience, including the best practices of Europe and the USA.
The “Readership Assembly of the Commonwealth” consists of 17 countries, more than 400 participants, of which 100 are representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Tajikistan, Georgia and the Baltic countries: Latvia, The Republic of Lithuania and Estonia, as well as five experts from non-CIS countries - France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United States of America.
The program consisted of two parts - a plenary meeting and work on sections with the development of a resolution of the Assembly.
Representatives from Uzbekistan also participated in the international project “Readership Assembly of the Commonwealth”. These are: G. Ismailova - director of the information and library center of Andijan region named after Babur, D. Uralov - director of the Republican Children's Library, N. Zhuraev - deputy director, chief editor of the publishing and printing creative house named after Gafur Gulyam, A. Abdurazakov - deputy director of information of the library center of the Syrdarya region named after Alisher Navoi, M. Tulanov - head of the sector of the information and library center of the Ferghana region named after Ahmad Fergani, O. Khamidova - head of the reading room service of the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi, F. Shodmanov is a teacher of information and library disciplines at the Tashkent Professional College of Information Technologies, S. Rashidova is an elementary school teacher at the Tashkent International School, the head of the reading mothers club.
